This year at Spectrum we gained a new athletic director. His name is Nate Chapman, and in the past, he has coached many teams.
“I spent 20 years as a high school basketball, middle school and high school track coach. Spent a lot of time overseeing athletic programs and different community programs as well,” Said Mr. Chapman.
Mr. Chapman has a positive outlook on Spectrum and has some great goals for us.
When we interviewed him there was one topic that stood out to us. Mr. Chapman’s One Sting philosophy, he talked about treating everyone with respect and responsibility. He also talked about athletes going to different sports games to support each other.
After we interviewed the new A.D., we interviewed two of Spectrum’s head coaches. we first asked them what they thought of Mr. Chapman. Scott Gangl, the head coach of football, responded with how he thought Mr. Chapman has done a great job this year. He also talked about how when the players stepped out of line, Mr. Chapman was there to help correct the players.
We also asked Faith Fattz, the head coach of boys soccer, her thoughts on Mr. Chapman. She responded with how positive the change has been, how supportive he is of the head coaches, and how supportive he’s been with the athletes on the field and academically.
Both of the head coaches talked about how connective Mr. Chapman is.
“He’s real level headed and he’s caring about what the kids say and he’s really caring about each program, not just football,” said Gangl.
“I think his personality works really well with the secondary students because he’s very personal and tries to connect with them,” Said Fattz.
Mr. Chapman’s One Sting philosophy has impacted the coaches and they look forward to working with him in the future. “It’s really hard to have that small hometown feel like a lot of other schools do because all of our kids are. So to try and build a culture of sports is a little more difficult when you don’t have the community like one town behind you. So he’s trying to create some of that where sports are a big deal for us and for our school,” Said Gangl.
“I think we’re going to be stronger together being on the same page when it comes to the One Sting philosophy,” Said Fattz.
Some of the positive impacts that Mr. Chapman has made has been, The One Sting philosophy, how connected he has made our sports, and how connective he has been with the coaches.
