The Reading Terminal Market is a staple for Philadelphia visitors. It’s also loved by many locals. There are a variety of foods, grocery areas, and shops from many different cultures.
There are many things to enjoy at the Reading Terminal. Blessing Harris works at Uncle Gush, a philly cheesesteak booth. Harris said, “The Reading Terminal is really great there’s a lot you can do here, different types of food, events going on and whatever”. All the popularity makes it a pretty active building. Sarah Baumeister said, “No matter what, even if you are busy or not, the terminal is busy.”
The Reading Terminal Market has many places to eat but only one is an original, Baskett’s Ice Cream. Alex Bassett Strange said, “We’ve been here in the Reading Terminal Market for 130 years.” Strange is the president of the company. It originated from his great great great grandfather. “The reading terminal market opened up and because of his experience in selling ice cream and knowing the Philadelphia ice cream market. He saw this as a great opportunity and legend is it. He was one of the first to sign a lease. We are the last remaining original merchant from when this market opened in 1893”, said Strange.
A big part of this place is the all the people that come in. Harris said, “I actually like being downtown it’s a better scenery. You get to see all different types of people every day.” It’s not just people from around America. “I met people from all over the world so that is definitely a good experience,” said Barmeister.
If you get the chance, visit the Reading Terminal Market to get amazing food and see many people.
