The Adventures of Job Shadowing

Here at spectrum when you get into your junior year, students get to go through the Adventures of Job shadowing. This is when a student contacts someone with a job they are interested in and they follow them around for their shift and see what their job is actually like. These job shadows later help not only with making the decision to do or not do a job but they also help with in school assignments like your senior capstone.

Rogers police department, one of the many places students can pick to shadow a job.

This opportunity is given to students so that they can see how a job that they seemed to like is actually like. If a job you thought was one thing ends up being completely different and you change your mind about wanting to do that job. For example if you wanted to be a police officer and you decide to job shadow an officer, you might realize during that shadow that being a police officer takes a lot of paper work instead of a lot of crime calls. This new knowledge might make it so that you change your mind about wanting to do that job.

Another example of this is if you wanted to become a veterinarian because you love animals, you might shadow a vet to see what its like. Depending on how that job shadow goes you might change your mind on what you want to do. Veterinarians help animals but sometimes the animals don’t want to take the help they are getting and that might be hard to watch.

CCR 3 teacher, Mrs. Aase says that other than the main goals of these job shadows, there is a big communication lesson that can be learned from them. Throughout the entire job shadowing process you have to learn how to have a big amount of communication. this is because there are two ways that you can get a job shadow, the first way is through a family friend where you somewhat know the person but you aren’t very close with them, and the second is a cold call where you reach out to a job and have to be able to communicate with the job and ask them if it would be okay for you to shadow them. This creates better communication skills that will help you with things like your senior capstone that needs a lot of communication to do.

In conclusion, student job shadowing is a very important thing for future jobs, these job shadows can save you from doing years of college for a job you realize that you don’t even like. This along with other future projects that will be the main goal of your grade. this has been Abby with noise News
