This Spring, Spectrum’s musical was The Sound of Music, a Musical film produced in 1965 by Robert Wise.
The plot goes as: “So The Sound of Music is basically it is following um a woman named Maria she um was a nun but then ultimately her um like authority figure her name is mother Abis she sends her off to go live and be almost like a nanny for the Von Trapp children family um and the their father is his name is Captain or Georg um he goes off and he goes and he is away from the children so they need to have someone watch them and so it’s basically a story about how those children get to know maria because she is a little different she likes to sing with them which is something that’s not very like captain he’s very military and then captain and maria end up falling in love and it’s all well um Austria is being invaded um around world war 2 so it’s just a story about love, friendship, and standing up for what you believe in so yea” according to Sarah Smith.
But, theater isn’t just about the play, it’s also about the memories you make a long the way. Here, Evan Koncsol and Sarah Smith shared their favorite memories about the musical. “Since I have a smaller role than I had before um I have a little bit of extra down time and so there have been times when I have sat and watched people rehearsing and played solitaire on the ground it’s always fun because then people would come over and help me figure out my solitaire moves, ” said Konscol.
“When we would all go outside and play games at rehearsal or before rehearsal um we would practice over at the 7-8 grade building when we weren’t able to be in the gym and we would go outside and we would play like yard games so like um ships across the ocean thing like that um just as a whole cast and there are middle-schoolers there so I got to hangout with middle-schoolers and some of my high school friends who I have known for a really long time and it’s just been great” said Sarah. One great concern Samuel Zehringer about the future of theater specifically next year was the loss of many seniors and other students. As well as the question of who will take their place and fill the gap? Lastly, All of Spectrum’s theater was very excited to perform The Sound of Music this year and look forward to the many other productions Spectrum’s theater will produce.
