Spectrum offers the opportunity for our C@SH students to earn college credit while still in the high school building. This is a distinctive opportunity for Spectrum.
C@SH teacher of history, Mrs. Hewitt shared how surprised people in the community became when she described the work that she does.
Hewitt said, “There are some schools that have a class here, a class there. Our program, where you get the entire AA in this building, is very unique.”
Students shared how Spectrum’s C@SH program is beneficial for them.
Maliha Philstrom, a junior at Spectrum, said, “C@SH classes benefit students because you get to have a teacher whose actually there in the classroom with you teaching you in person and guiding you along in the coursework as you go.”
Lydia Peterson, also a junior at Spectrum shared how she benefits from C@SH classes.
Peterson said, “I think cash definitely drives students to like try harder in their classes and that definitely creates a more academic environment that isn’t found at lots of other schools in the area and that definitely helps me because I know that I’m surrounded by people that work just as hard as I do.”
Brenna Gray, a senior at Spectrum who transferred here this school year, shares her individual perspective. Gray said, “In my old school I was taking one or two college classes a semester but now I am having four classes which is a lot more extra credits so I am getting farther ahead in college which is less money for me or my parents to have to pay for.”
Throughout these advantages, Spectrum prioritizes support for students.Hewitt describes how Spectrum offers support for students that participate in the C@SH program.
Hewitt said, “If you go PSEO and into a four-year college, you’re doing that trapeze without a net. So if you fall, unfortunately, sometimes you smack the floor. Here, we’re designed to be the net to help catch you before you smash into the floor and help maybe bounce you back up back onto that trapeze when you might have struggles in life.”
This program influences students college preparation, and is a distinctive opportunity for all.
