Choir Concert Sings with the Sound of Student Instrumental Talent

Typically when you think of a choir concert you would imagine only singing and probably a piano. At this year’s choir concert, Mr. Kempenich, the choir teacher, found ways to incorporate instruments. A few of Spectrum’s Jazz

Band students and other musicians participated in the 2024 Winter Fine Arts Concert. Eve Krotzer, a freshman, played the violin, Lyla Mack, a sophomore, played the baritone saxophone, and Paul Lemmermann, a senior, played the trumpet. Those are just some of the few students that had the opportunity to perform with the choirs.

Finding time to rehearse was a challenge that the students in Jazz Band faced. “All we really had was a few RTI rehearsals so there is definitely some stress on it,” Mack said. In the end, it all worked out. “It was kinda put together real quick, but I think we did a good job,” said Lemmermann.

With all the different instruments, people might not all practice the same. “I run the song over and over, and I get the timing right…make sure I have all the notes in the right place, and I listen to the recording,” said Krotzer. In other words, “Practice, practice, practice,” said Mack.

Though the musicians had little time to practice, they all worked hard to perform at their very best. Through all their efforts, they were able to pull it together to help make the choir concert a success.
